Rhipsalis mesembryanthemoides is a small epiphytic cactus once common around the Rio de Janeiro area but now potentially extinct in the wild. Because of the ever-increasing urban spread its verified range is now restricted to public parks around Rio and Nitarói, notably Parque Laje where it grows up the trunks and branches of parkland trees. With no protected status other than what the various park adminstrators provide it has been listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN.
Rhipsalis mesembryanthemoides forms part of our ex-situ conservation programme and limited quantities will be available only from time to time.
