Tulipa kolpakowskiana, Kolpakowsky's Tulip is another of the wonderful species Tulips endemic to the Central Asian mountain ranges, in particular southern Ala Tau and northern Tien Shan. It is a medium height tulip, usually with a curved stem, with deep yellow flowers, each streaked with a pinkish-red or greyish violet colouration on the outside. Its foliage is blueish-green with wavy margins and combined with the curved habit of the stems makes a charming show as it increases each year, naturalising - in every sense of the word - rather than the stiff erect plantings one so often associates with hybrid Tulips.
