Echeveria elegans, Mexican Snowball, is a stunningly beautiful succulent from Mexico with a symmetrical offset-producing form. It has gorgeous pale blue-green foliage upturned into a nest of concentric cup-like rosettes from which further rosettes offset. In summer, tall flower spikes end in beautiful gem-like flowers of pink and yellow on pink pedicels.
Perfect as a houseplant, Echeveria elegans needs little water in a bright sunny aspect. The substrate should be free-draining with plenty of grit or gravel. This is one of the tougher Echeverias and in very favoured warm locations to the south and southwest of the UK, adventurous growers will want to experiment with trying some of their surplus rooted offsets outdoors, possibly in the nooks and crannies of dry stone walls.
