Lilium pardalinum, Panther Lily is a tall-growing woodland species from Oregon and California that thrives in partial or filtered shade and a moist humus-rich soil. It has gorgeous exotic flowers that are dark reddish-orange on the outer petals and a paler but brighter orange towards the centre speckled with dark maroon spots. The overall effect is dramatic and highly ornamental. Easy to grow, prefering semi-shade but coping well with full sun in most British conditions, it likes a moist sheltered situation that resembles the forested streambanks of its native range. The bulbs multiply by rhizomatous growth and will soon form a tall dramatic clump.

Elegant, fragrant and unusual, Lilium pardalinum will do also do well in a container and is great for cut flowers. A wind-free aspect or stake as necessary. Highly recommended.
