Sempervivum 'Okerwurtz' is one of a very small handful of Sempervivum cultivars that are truly distinctive and is characterised by a red/maroon inner leaf and a pale green outer leaf. This is best observed with younger unweathered offsets but when Sempervivum 'Okerwurtz' has been exposed to the summer weather for any length of time it takes on a beautiful pale apricot tinge which markedly adds to its attractiveness. This stressed lemony-apricot look is in contrast to many succulents that take on a pinkish tinge when sun-stressed. The plants then turn a more maroon tone in the winter.
Sempervivum 'Okerwurtz' is very hardy, experiencing both heavy frost and extreme drought conditions.
