Bowiea volubilis, Climbing Onion, is a curious bulbous succulent, endemic to the South and Eastern countries of Africa that sends out a thin green vine in the growing season that straggles and climbs on any support it is given. It bears tiny green flowers but it is for its odd bulbous caudiciform-like nature that you will probably feel compelled to grow Bowiea volubilis. In time, the bulbs divide - quite literally - splitting down the middle to form two new bulbs and this unusual habit is a genuine joy in slow-motion and re-kindles anew a sense of wonder and awe at the natural world.
