Inula racemosa, Indian Elecampane, is a tall, stout and very sturdy herbaceous perennial from the Western Himalayas where it grows at elevations of 1500-3200 metres above sea level along riverbanks, in grasslands and along the borders of fields. It forms an enormous and tall clump with gigantic elliptic-shaped foliage that is tomentose - especially when young - then turning leathery and has toothy serrated margins and long purplish petioles. It is a very handsome plant with some of the largest longest leaves you are likely to see on any hardy plant.
In summer, the tall multi-headed racemes of large yellow daisy-like flowers are produced creating a stunning bee-attracting display.
