Rodgersia sambucilfola, Elder-Leaf Rodgersia, is a compact hardy herbaceous perennial from the valleys of western China where it flourishes in moist humus-rich soils at elevations of between 1800m and 3700m above sea level. The habit is smallish, the foliage has a true pinnate compound structure and it has long-stemmed plumes of creamy white flowers in summer. The calyces on the opening flower-buds are often tawny-cream.

Rodgersia sumbucifolia is ideally situated in a moist position in dappled shade and shouldn't be allowed to dry out in the heat of summer.

With its large exotic foliage and manageable overall size, Rodgersia sambucifolia is an ideal choice for the small-to medium sized exotic garden with a moist shady aspect.
