Philodendron erubescens 'Green Princess'

Philodendron erubescens 'Green Princess' is a distinctly green cultivar of this handsome species with attractive medium-sized foliage and a compact habit. The type species was first described in 1854 and is a climber from the moist Colombian jungle with new-growth foliage that is bright red to pink and petioles that are dark maroon. 'Green Princess' however, is pure green and the new-growth is bright green before maturing into a dark emerald colour. It's habit is more contained than the type species and tends to be more suitable for domestic situations where leggy climbers can often become untidy and over-demanding. Ideal in a bathroom or perhaps on a kitchen windowsill where the humidity and warmth will suit it.

Philodendron erubescens 'Green Princess' is a remarkably undemanding houseplant that requires little attention other than to keep it just moist and out of direct sunlight. While it requires much less watering in the winter when the light levels are lower, it can be kept growing in these darker months by just the occasional very light watering taking care not to over-do it.
