Rodgersia aesculifolia 'Purdomii' is a distinctive form of Rodgersia aesculifolia with flower buds that are coppery pinkish-brown and foliage that has a metallic reddish-brown tinge, particularly when the new growth is emerging. It was once known as Rodgersia purdomii after William Purdom who collected it in China. It has also been called Rodersia aesculifolia var. purdomii but neither of these two names have been taxonomically described. Apparently the original herbarium specimen has been lost. These 'Purdomii' cultivars, which we have preserved by vegetative division, are highly attractive with their heavily textured metallic palmate foliage and coppery buds which open with a pinkish colour before fading to the more familiar white of the Rodgersia aesculifolia type species.
