Festuca glauca, Blue Festuca or Blue Mountain Grass is endemic to the Pyrenees where it grows on poor but well drained rocky slopes. A striking blue in colour it forms attractive clumps that have been likened to a hedgehog or porcupine. A well-known and instantly recoognisable grass it is often included in the palette of garden designers and landscapers. Used en masse or combined with other taller grasses, it always creates a strong visual statement.
Festuca glauca sometimes seems to run out of energy after a few years and becomes straggly. Divide the clumps to reinvigorate them.
