Globba marantina, one of the Dancing Girl Gingers, is a small to medium-sized ginger, usually no more than 1.3m tall with attractive tapering lanceolate foliage and exquisite terminal inflorescences of yellow and caramel-coloured flowers with an elongated, slender and extremely incurved filament and an even more slender, almost transparent style. The entire flower, like most in this genus is visually arresting and elegant. Small bulbils are formed after flowering in the lower parts of the inflorescence; indeed this species is sometimes listed by one of its outdated synonyms, Globba bulbifera - or worse - erroneously referred to as the completely different, Globba schumburgkii.

Globba marantina has a wide geographical range from the Himalayas through Southeast Asia to Queensland in Australia.

It requires a warm, sheltered aspect in filtered shade and should be mulched heavily in the winter. Alternatively it can be lifted and the rhizomes potted up indoors for the winter. The foliage dies down by mid-November or before.
