Lilium 'Miss Lily'
Lilium 'Miss Lily' is a tall-growing OT cultivar with very beautiful large fragrant flowers with dark cherry red petals edged with a wide margin of white. These types of hybrid lilies have become known in the UK as Tree Lilies or Giant Lilies because of their exceptionally tall-growing habit, often reaching 2.5m or even 3 m in height. They are more correctly known as OT hybrids or Orienpet hybrids as they are crosses between Oriental Lilies and Trumpet Lilies, combining the sublime exotic beauty and fragrance of the Oriental Lily with the hardiness, the tough adaptability and the range of colours from the Trumpet lilies.
The should be planted deep with generous handfuls of sand and grit to prevent rot setting in during the winter. Reaching their full height after three seasons of growth, 'Miss Lily' - despite its rather uninspired cultivar name - is a magnificent and very impressive plant, towering over much of the garden. It flowers in late July to early August with a magnificent display and its massive, highly-fragrant blooms can be over 20cm across.
