Gillenia trifoliata, Bowmans Root, is an elegant herbaceous perennial with masses of starry white flowers with pinkish red calyces held above the three-leaved foliage on dark pink-red stems. It flowers for an extended period throughout the summer and is a very easy no-fuss plant to cultivate. It prefers dappled shade and a humus-rich soil.
Foliage turns a bright attractive red in autumn.
