Pandorea jasminoides, Bower Vine is a vigourous climber from New South Wales and Southern Queensland with gorgeous saucer-like pink flowers that have a deep fuchsia pink throat and are borne in profusion throughout the summer months. It thrives in a fertile well-drained soil and full sun and although it will take dry conditions once established, it appreciates being well-watered during the growing season.

Cold tolerant but not frost hardy it will usually defoliate in a light frost surviving only if kept well-mulched and the subsequent winter temperatures don't go any lower. Some in the southwest and in urban London districts may have an ideal sheltered spot for it but for most gardeners it will need to be kept in a container and brought indoors to a cool light location until the following spring. It can usually manage in an unheated glasshouse although covering it with fleece may be advisable in colder regions. If you don't have a conservatory you can keep it it a bathroom while small and then when it starts to get larger it could be over-wintered in a garage or frost-free shed. A robust vine it will always respond well to being cut back in the autumn so overall size should not be considered a limitation on how you house it during the winter. It's certainly special enough to go to the little extra trouble it requires.
