Arisaema galeatum, the Helmeted Cobra Lily, is endemic to the Himalayas from Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and the northern part of West Bengal in India, to Bhutan, Northern Myanmar and southwest China at elevations of 1300-2500m. It has a distinctive spathe that is recurved downwards at the front giving it a helmet-like appearance from which protrudes on either side a flange-like wing giving it the classic cobra-hood shape. The spathe is dark green with paler green longitudinal stripes and at the base of the spathe the colouration is characteristically orange-ish, an unusual contrast to the green. The spadix is not as attenuated as some Arisaemas and tends to point downwards. The foliage is very large and robust and the trifoliolate leaves are richly textured and coloured with pale green and pinkish-purple.

Arisaema galeatum is a choice Arisaema with large-growing tubers that when mature will support a large plant growing to over 140cm in height. It will benefit from a liquid seaweed feed during the growing season and requires a humus-rich but well-drained soil that is kept moist but not wet throughout the winter dormancy or lift the tubers in late autumn once the foliage has died down.
