Description

Aquilegia caerulea, Rocky Mountain Columbine is an utterly charming herbaceous perennial from higher elevations in the American West with a showy two-toned blue and white flower with long spurs and contrasting yellow anthers. The flowers are large for an Aquilegia and this large size, together with the spurs and unusual colouration give them an unforgettable presence and an extra dose of the exotic. Gardeners in the exotic style often overlook Aquilegias in their quest for increasingly unusual plants. Hidden in plain sight, Aquilegias have it all going for them: exquisite flowers, filmy ferny foliage, fully hardy and fuss-free. Sometimes plants need to be looked at in a new light, free from preconceptions.
