Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Purpurea' is a purple-tinged cultivar of Euphorbia amygdaloides, the Woodspurge. It is a drought-tolerant evergreen with purplish stems and soft downy foliage that is darkest in winter. In spring, it rapidly produces tall spikes of acid green flowers which are extremely attractive, bringing light and interest to dark shady corners. The new growth is so rapid it often loses much of its purplish colouration at this time. It spreads by its rhizomes forming a handsome bushy clump.

All Euphorbias should be handled with care to avoid skin or eye contact with the white milky sap.

Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Purpurea' is a very easy and rewarding plant to grow. It tolerates dry shady conditions and neglect and rewards with a stunning display of spring flowers.
