Aspidistra daibuensis 'Totally Dotty' is a cultivar of Aspidistra daibuensis originally collected in 1996 by Bleddwyn and Sue Wynn-Jones and selected for its heavily spotted and streaked foliage. Aspidistra daibuensis is a very variable species and there are now many selected cultivars available but 'Totally Dotty' is undoubtably one of the best. The heavy white maculation on the adaxial surface is completely random and the outer edge of the white dots and streaks creates a thin perimeter of yellow and intense green as it abruptly meets the dark green of the leaf blade. The tall petioles and broad robust leaves gives this cultivar extra height. Careful inspection during the winter months may reveal the small purple cup-shaped flower that arises basally direct from the scaly rhizomes.

Although prized as a houseplant, Aspidistra daibuensis 'Totally Dotty' is remarkably hardy outdoors and endures sub-zero temperatures with little fuss particularly if situated in a sheltered spot with the benefit of other surrounding and overhanging foliage. It does best in a fertile but well-drained soil and in a shaded aspect.
