Acacia baileyana, the Cootamundra Wattle, is a highly ornamental tree or large shrub from New South Wales with short, very attractive, silvery-greyish, blue-green, bi-pinnate leaves that are a purplish shade when young. When mature it produces long racemes of yellow globose flowers from February to April.

Not as hardy as Acacia dealbata or Acacia mearnsii, Acacia baileyana needs a warm sheltered aspect, full sun and a deep mulch for winter. Suitable in milder parts of the country or in an urban microclimate it can also be grown in a large container for the conservatory. During long periods of sub-zero temperatures it should be protected with several layers of fleece.
