Arisaema concinnum is a rewarding and relatively easy Arisaema to grow and - like Arisaema consanguineum - is somewhat variable having several different forms with the colour of the spathe ranging from green to an almost black dark brown. The form we offer here has blackish dark chocolate brown spathes tinged with purple and marked with highly contrasting longitudinal white stripes that splay out in a fan shape on the spathe hood. The end of the spathe forms a long extended tapering tip. The tube of the spathe is slender and cylindrical like a pitcher plant and the vertical markings on this tube are typically very close together. Arisaema concinnum has a wide geographical range across the Himalayan region from Northern India, Nepal and Tibet eastwards into Northern Myanmar and China growing on alpine meadows and forest clearings at high altitude to 3500m. The large single leaf has many radiating leaflets creating an attractive umbrella shape and the petiole forms a short pseudostem. The tubers are stoloniferous and form a clump over time.

Arisaema concinnum - like all Arisaemas - requires a rich yet very well-drained soil. Surrounding the tuber in a mix of coarse bark, shingle and sharp sand when planting will help to prevent it rotting in the typically wet British climate. Plant in dappled shade and give it a generous mulch of coarse bark in the winter months.
