Ligularia przewalskii is a large vigourous herbaceous perennial from Northern China with extremely attractive deeply-cut palmate foliage, dark purple-black stems and tall racemes of yellow flowers from June through to August. It is a bold impressive plant, growing vigourously in the Spring to create a wonderful spreading clump of richly-veined leaves before sending up its dramatic spikes of bright yellow daisy-like flowers.

Afflicted with a difficult looking name, it is pronounced Shavalskii and perhaps not such a stumbler once you know that. It needs a moist humus-rich deeply-dug soil and grows best in a shady spot, often wilting limply in full sun or dry conditions. A shady moist location near water is perfect.
