Puya berteroniana, Turquoise or Blue Puya is a medium-sized Puya with rosettes of long very thin silvery-green foliage that produces thick clumps and - in time - a tall silvery flower-spike with astonishing turquoise flowers and brightly contrasting orange anthers.

It is endemic to Chile and is found to elevations of around 2300m above sea level. One of the tougher Puya species, it will take temperatures down to about -5C if the drainage is perfect and occasional brief spells down to -8C once established. Winter protection with fleece is always a sensible precaution when growing Puya in the UK.
