Sanguisorba obtusa, Japanese Burnet, is a charming fast-growing herbaceous perennial with an informal habit and attractive pinnate leaves that are toothed on their edges somewhat resembling a miniature Melianthus major. The long pink bottlebrush-shaped flowers are borne on tall rather floppy spikes and are produced in great abundance. It is a lovely plant, forming a medium-height mat from which the flowers rise to about 1m creating a meadow-like effect.
An undemanding and rewarding plant that is ideal with other informal perennials or to provide useful summer colour.
