Tasmannia lanceolata, Mountain Pepper or Tasmanian Pepperberry is an attractive small shrub to small tree with elegant lanceolate foliage and brightly contrasting maroon-red stems. In Spring, inflorescences of pinkish buds open to creamy-white flowers with centres of yellow stamens. Dark-red berries follow in autumn and ripen to a glossy black. The plant is highly aromatic and both leaves and berries are used as a sweet-peppery spice.

Tasmannia lanceolata was previously known as Drimys lanceolata and it is still often found sold under that now revised synonym.
