Arisaema consanguineum is a reliable and easy member of this rather special genus, flowering later in the season than most Arisaemas, sometimes as early as mid-May but usually not until June. It has a wide range in the wild from the Himalayas down into northern Thailand, Laos and China growing at medium to high altitudes of 1000-3200 metres above sea level usually in forest and forest clearings. Because of this wide distribution, Arisaema consanguineum is somewhat variable in form and the spathes can be pure green with very pale stripes to green with prominent white stripes to dark purple with white stripes and with every varying shade and combination in between. For the same reason, they can also be variable in hardiness, the forms originating from lower elevations in Thailand being less hardy. Our tubers are originally from the hardier forms originating in northern India at higher elevations and their spathes are almost always green in colour usually with very pale stripes

The foliage on Arisaema consanguineum is also extremely attractive and forms a radiating umbrella of exotic leaflets above the inflorescence.

Recommended. Limited numbers only.
