Description

Fascicularia bicolor is a Chilean bromeliad with rosettes of thin long finely serrated foliage that lives as a lithophyte or epiphyte in its natural habitat. It is one of the hardiest of all the Bromeliaceae and if given good drainage it will do well outdoors in the UK in warmer locations and elsewhere in sheltered microclimates. It forms numerous offsets and in time will create a large clump.

Fascicularia bicolor undergoes a startling and dramatic change in summer when it comes into bloom and the foliage in the central part of the rossette turns a brilliant red. The small flowers in the centre of the rossete are blue with contrasting yellow anthers

Fascicularia bicolor is a spectacular and rewarding species and relatively easy to cultivate providing it has good drainage.
