Trainee Horticulturalist/Grower/Propagator - Producing Hardy Exotics and Rare Plants - Part Time - 2-3 days per wk

Tropical Britain has a part-time vacancy for a trainee horticulturalist/propagator/grower to form part of a core propagation/production team specialising in hardy exotics: palms, bananas, gingers, aroids, succulents, bulbs and perennials.

You will be enthusiastic, reliable, self-motivated and botanically knowledgeable - ideally with a passion for hardy exotics/rare plants and have the ability to initiate and implement new systems, meeting and outperforming targets across a wide range of horticultural growing skills.

You will be using a number of propagation techniques including seed germination, cuttings and divisions and be responsible for many exciting lines - many of them never grown in the UK commercially before - from inception through to sales.

You will be responsible for transplanting a wide range of plants into larger pots at our new nursery in New Haw. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious trainee nurseryperson – dynamic and energetic yet dedicated and responsible - to propagate and nurture some of the most interesting plants that can survive in the British climate.

You will be a valued member of a production team enabling exotic gardening to be taken to a completely new level in this country, widening the choice of species available and thriving on producing only the highest quality plant specimens possible.

The job is based in Surrey at New Haw. It is ideally suited for someone with their own transport or who lives locally.

Please respond with a FULL covering letter and CV telling us why you are the best person for this position to info[at]tropicalbritain[dot]co[dot]uk

Horticulturalist/Packer/Grower - Part Time - 2-3 days per week

Tropical Britain currently has a a part-time vacancy, 2-3 days a week, Monday to Wednesday, for a Horticulturalist-Packer to form part of our Packing Department.

You will be enthusiastic, reliable, self-motivated and ideally botanically and horticulturally knowledgeable with a passion for hardy exotics/rare plants.

You will be directly responsible for ensuring that each customer order is perfectly packed according to its particular requirements and labeled correctly for despatch.

You will need to be methodical with a keen sense of attention to detail and customer care.

You will need to have the ability to initiate and implement new systems at the new location and ensure that the transition works seamlessly.

This position requires someone who is not only practical and clear-headed but who understands the horticultural needs of particular species in transit and can translate this knowledge into a package for mail-order that is cost-efficient, robust and - most importantly - ensures customer satisfaction.

When not packing plants for mail-order there will be the opportunity to assist the propagation/production team in the cultivation, care and propagation of our range of hardy exotics: palms, bananas, gingers, aroids, succulents, bulbs and perennials.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious person – dynamic and energetic yet dedicated and responsible - to become involved with delivering to the public some of the most interesting plants that can survive in the British climate.
